ARTS & CRAFTS
Tutor: Jo Sutton
Location: Uppingham School
Ever thought that antique chair in the attic is in need of some attention? Or have you spotted a lovely old chair on eBay you think could be transformed? If so, this is the course for you. You should bring a piece of furniture to upholster and we will guide you through each stage of the process using traditional techniques and materials.
As you learn, you will also enjoy the pleasure of seeing an old piece of furniture come back to life and renewed glory, or be adapted to blend with your home’s colour scheme. Before the course starts there will be an opportunity to talk to the tutor, Jo Sutton, to discuss your piece, identify what you will need to bring and your aspirations for your furniture. Although we don’t sell top fabric, the materials needed to upholster your furniture can be bought from Jo. This is a lively course filled with learners both old and new willing to share experiences and learning together in the craft of upholstery.
These courses will be run during both the Easter and summer holidays.
The tutor will contact you in advance of the course to discuss the piece of furniture you are hoping to upholster and to go through some of the practicalities of the course.
Please bring your own tools if you have them, but please don’t worry if you don’t as we will have tools available for you to borrow during the week.
Materials such as webbing and wadding will be available for a small charge.
