5100419 Write Away: Writing and Exploring Stories
Tutor: Benjamin Scott
Location: Uppingham School
Over five days, budding writers aged 9 to 12 years old will get a chance to work on sustained creative writing and develop their own stories. These young writers will learn writing tools to help them generate new ideas, develop characters and explore plotting. Some of the time we’ll be working collaboratively, getting ideas from each other and supporting the group to develop a story; and sometimes, we’ll be working on our own pieces of writing and then sharing with the group. There will be short, fun writing exercises as well as a chance to work towards a longer, more developed piece of writing with feedback from other participants and the tutor.
Benjamin Scott has taught creative writing for a range of schools and organisations, including the Oxford University Continuing Education Department and Swanwick, the Writers’ Summer School, as well as mentoring writers through his critiquing and editorial service. He really enjoys inspiring and encouraging young writers to explore and develop their passion for writing and storytelling. Benjamin is the ghost-author of eight books (including five books in the Star Fighters series by Max Chase) and his debut Young Adult novel is currently on submission with his literary agent.
